Student Honors Senior Project
Magazine Design
In the beginning of my senior year of college I felt intimidated looking at the year in front of me. Our schooling is preparing us for our future jobs, but sometimes it feels like we are trusting our education to be sufficient without knowing what the graphic design workplace is truly like. After going out and touring different design workplaces, I found that there can be a disconnect between school and the workplace especially concerning the idea of professionalism and soft skills. (Soft skills being defined as how you interact with other people, such as communication skills and teamwork - As opposed to hard skills, which are technical and job-specific.) I decided to make this the central focus of my honors senior project. To create this magazine I interviewed both practicing Graphic Designers as well as Design students, the goal or creating a magazine to help students understand soft skills and bridge the gap between education and the workplace.
